A Healthier Spine Means a Healthier You.

Most of us live everyday with some sort of health problem. It could be allergies, asthma, sinus problems, headaches, neck pain, numbness in our extremities, heart problems, digestive problems, menstrual problems, back pain and sciatica, etc…. Many of us seem to accept these health problems as normal and move on with our busy lifestyles. We take medication in hopes that the problem will go away and ignore the dangerous side affects that can occur from the use of these drugs. We soon realize that all we did was cover the symptoms when the medication wears off and our health problems remain. This leads us to search for answers and alternatives to improving out health. That’s why more and more people are now turning to chiropractic for help.

To fully understand how chiropractic care can help, we need to understand how the body works. The human body is the most amazing organism. Trillions of functions occur throughout your body every day. In order for your heart to beat, for your lungs to breath, for a cut on your finger to heal, or for you to shiver when you get cold information has to travel through your nervous system in order to do those functions.

Now there are three things that make up your nervous system. The brain, the spinal cord and over twelve miles of nerves that spread out over your entire body. The brain acts as a central communication center for every function that occurs inside your body by sending and receiving millions of electrical messages throughout your body every second. The spinal cord acts as a control panel that relays these electrical impulses to and from the body along nerves extending from the spinal cord, to every organ, tissue and cell in your body. There is an estimated 15 billion nerve cells in the human body all relaying that valuable information.

The spinal column is made up of 24 movable bones that protect and surround the spinal cord and your nerves. From the front your spine should be perfectly straight and from the side your spine should have three curves. When the spinal column is in the correct position the electrical impulses race along the nerves from the brain to the body and back to the brain relaying information without any interference in the nervous system.

What we look for as chiropractors are misalignments that occur in the spine. Trauma, poor posture, and the repetitive everyday activities that we endure leads to stress causing misalignments in your spine. These misalignments are called vertebral subluxations. When a subluxation occurs it stresses the nervous system, putting pressure on the spinal cord and nerves. This pressure interferes with the messages the brain is relaying to your body, causing dysfunction in the body leading to asthma, allergies, sinus problems, headaches, neck pain, heart problems, digestive problems, sciatica, numbness in the extremities and back pain among others.

Once a chiropractor locates the problem areas we make small adjustments to the spine correcting the subluxations. By adjusting the spine back into its normal position, we remove the interference to the nervous system allowing the body to function and heal to its God given potential.

When you look at the spine the most important section is your neck (the cervical spine). Neurologists refer to it as the arc of the life. What we are supposed to have is a 43* arc in our necks, that’s what a normal cervical spine should be. In order to make sure that the brain communicates at 100% with the rest of the body you have to have that 43* curve in your neck.

The normal x-ray that you see here is my own. I have had a luxury that most people haven’t had. My grandfather and my father are both chiropractors so my spine has been taken care of all my life. I continue to get adjusted once or twice a week to maintain that correct position. I have always thought that if you are going to go to a chiropractor you should go to somebody who takes care of his own spine and nervous system. When we become subluxated abnormal stress and pressure is placed on the nervous system, bones, joints and disc. When we leave the subluxation untreated we will go through three different phases in the degenerative process of our spines. It really doesn’t matter how old we are we can be 2 weeks old or 60 years old it doesn’t matter every human being on the earth will go through these phases.
